To make money from your writing skills, you already have everything you need: a computer, and an Internet connection. Within a month or two, you should be making $100 a day. As you become more experienced, your income will increase.

Here's how to proceed.

1. Choose the topics you can write about easily, and with experience

The more you write, the more income you'll make, so especially when you're starting out, so it's important to choose topics you're comfortable writing about.

If you're a student, write about students' concerns, or private concerns, like weight loss.

If you're a parent, write about parenting.

If you're an adult, the sky's the limit. Make a list of topics in which you're interested. Perhaps you know about home renovation, or tropical fish, or you're a great cook. You can turn your interest and experiences into cash.

2. Check out the online articles directories

There are hundreds of article directories online. Read a selection of articles on these sites, to get an idea of how to cover topics and the length of articles.

3. Create a small Web site - use free services to start

Your writing business needs a Web site. Start a Blogger blog, it takes a minute or two, and it's free.

Ultimately you'll want to buy a domain name, and create your own hosted site, but a free service gets you started.

4. Write some articles for your own site

Write some articles for your site. These articles act as your writing samples, or portfolio. They show your clients what your writing style is like, and the topics you cover.

5. Advertise your services on online classifieds sites

Now you're all set. Use any of the free classifieds sites to advertise your writing business.

Expect it to take a few weeks (until your site and ads are indexed by the search engines) before you start getting enquiries. Continue writing for your site, and writing ads, until you get your first clients.
