The following article continues the points made in the previous two with regards to what steps should be taken following a car accident.

No matter how minor you think your injuries are it is important to get an appointment with a doctor or your local GP; he or she will be able to advise you on any tests or treatment that you may require. If you do have any injuries then it's a good idea to take a picture of them in the days following the accident, along with their progression.

Keeping a diary of your injuries is also advised, making note of how they are impacting on your day to day life. This will make things easier for yourself down the line when you have to complete the relevant compensation forms for the independent doctor. This will also help your solicitor in establishing your claim.

With any luck your insurance will include legal cover and if this is the case, then expect to here from your insurer's solicitors soon after the accident. They will deal with all of the technicalities of the claim, along with advising you on the best ways to proceed and sometimes offering general legal advice. All they will require from you is details of the accident and any injuries sustained.

The general aim of a car insurance claim is to put you back in the financial situation you would have been in had the accident not have happened. Costs such as your policy excess, medical expenses, compensation for injuries, loss of earnings etc. are some of the things that will make up your claim.

If you do not have legal cover then your best bet is talking with friends or your insurer who are likely to be able to best advise you on which companies to go with.

Chances are you will receive a letter from the other party's insurance company stating that you will be held liable, don't worry though, this is a common procedure. Forwarding any correspondence as well as directing any questions you may receive from the 3rd party to your insurance company is highly advisable.

Your insurance company will be there to deal with any such queries, after all this is why you pay them a premium. If you feel as though your car insurance premium is too high, then why not look online where you are likely to find cheap car insurance quotes from a range of providers.
